Morphy Richards is one of the oldest and most respected names in the domestic appliance business, with a reputation for bringing innovative, high-quality products to the market. This is partly due to the fact that the company keeps its “ear to the ground” in terms of detecting and capitalising on new trends in the home and lifestyle arena.
One of the most notable trends to emerge in recent years has been the practice of manual coffee making, with pour over brewing in particular becoming increasingly popular among coffee enthusiasts of all stripes.
The 162010 Pour Over Filter Coffee Maker is Morphy Richards’ response to this burgeoning trend, and with this cleverly designed coffee machine, they have created a way to enjoy the unmistakably superior taste of pour over coffee with the convenience and ease of push-button preparation.
Morphy Richards Filter Coffee Maker review

What are you buying?
The Morphy Richards 162010 Pour Over Coffee Maker utilises pour over shower head technology along with a reusable permanent “cupcake” filtre in order to create coffee with a fuller, smoother flavour. This is a far cry from the traditional cone filtres which often produce a bitter taste due to over-extracting the coffee when it reaches the most narrow part of the filtre.
Although the machine is fully programmable, it utilises a brewing process that is similar to the manual brewing methods often used by baristas: By initially delivering only a small amount of water over the grounds at first, the coffee is allowed to properly “bloom” and release its flavours before the rest of the water is dispensed.
The 162010 also features a programmable timer that allows you to wake up to a fresh pot of joe in the morning as you please, and its adjustable strength selector gives you full control of the intensity of the flavour, so that you can tailor the taste of your coffee to your personal preferences.
With a 1.8 litre capacity, the 162010 allows you to brew up to 12 cups of coffee at one time, and its “keep warm” function will keep your freshly brewed coffee nice and piping hot in the carafe for up to 25 minutes.

How easy is it to use?
In terms of ease of use, Morphy Richards really couldn’t have done much better. All you have to do is fill the machine with ground coffee and water, then select your desired strength and press the button to start it up.
The control panel is intuitive and very straightforward, with push-button operation that allows you to pre-set the time(s) that you would like to have your coffee brewed, even if it’s before you wake up in the morning.
The 162010 also features wipe-down surfaces, making the machine a breeze to keep clean. At the risk of sounding almost too simplistic, that’s really all there is to this machine–it’s a great bit of kit that enables you to quickly prepare delicious coffee without any complicated menus or convoluted dial-cranking or toggle-switching.
What accessories are included?
Simplicity is a lovely thing, especially when you’re really craving a cup of joe. That’s what I appreciate the most about the Morphy Richards 162010–it’s simple in every way, so much so that it’s a self-contained unit that’s ready to use right out of the box.
No mysterious attachments or multi-step setup processes; just a simple “plug-and-play” coffee maker that can make your life a whole lot easier.
Morphy Richards Coffee Maker key features
- Ridiculously simple push-button operation
- Cupcake filtre provides even coverage of coffee to avoid over-extraction
- Programmable timer
- Pour over shower head produces maximum flavour by evenly dispersing water over the coffee grounds
- This is very much a “grasping at straws” type of thing, but it can be tricky to read the water fill levels if you’re in a dimly lit room.
- Some people might not appreciate the fact that the warming plate will switch off after 25 minutes, but the good news is that if you want to keep your coffee warmer for longer, you can just switch it back on.
Anything else you should know?
I did want to point out that the 162010 has excellent dimensions, and is far from a “space hog”. Its compact size makes it a great fit for worktops of practically any size or space availability.
I also wanted to mention that the black and chrome design give this machine a very sleek look that can mesh well with a wide range of kitchen decor styles, so you won’t have to worry about your coffee maker sticking out like a sore thumb.
Pour over coffee making is somewhat of an art, and if you don’t have the right equipment for the job, it can turn into a disappointing ordeal. Thankfully, the Morphy Richards 162010 is the consummate pour over coffee maker, with hassle-free operation and intuitive design that make it easy and actually enjoyable to use. If you’ve been on the fence as to whether or not you should give this machine a try, I can confidently say that the 162010 is a safe bet.
